Thomas Sulger
Tom Sulger joined NW Financial in January 2020 as Managing Director. After spending the last 25 years with Gates Capital Corporation in New York City. As a founding partner in 1992, this specialty investment bank concentrated on the sales and trading of debt products and investment banking services primarily on behalf of 501 c 3 not for profit clients. Mr. Sulger spent the last twelve years as CEO, before Gates closed in 2019.
While CEO, Mr. Sulger oversaw approximately $2 billion in underwritings, placements and advisory contracts. He also collaborated with the Gates banking team to originate, structure, price and sell approximately $400 million in high yield municipals rated Baa1/BBB+ and below. He was active in the secondary markets as well working with the firm’s institutional clientele with a particular focus on high yield and distressed situations.
In addition to complementing the existing NW Capital Markets high yield team, he will pursue various 501 c 3 project financing opportunities. His experience includes charter and independent schools, youth facilities and other human service organizations.
Before Gates, he was a Vice President at Langdon P. Cook and Co. from 1986-1992 where he concentrated on sales, trading and underwriting municipal bonds.
