Howard K. Manning, Managing Director, recently joined NW Financial to lead the firm’s expansion into the healthcare, senior living and charter school sectors. Mr. Manning is a nationally recognized expert in healthcare finance and helped start Raymond James’ healthcare investment banking business by focusing on clients historically under-served by the major Wall Street firms. Mr. Manning has over 30 years of experience in the public finance industry as a mutual fund portfolio manager and analyst, high yield trader and underwriter, and investment banker. He provides investment banking and capital advisory services that include debt structuring and issuance, merger and acquisition strategy, workout and restructuring analysis, and credit and rating agency strategies. Mr. Manning has been involved with over $3 billion of tax-exempt and taxable transactions rated BBB and lower or unrated, and has worked with some of the most troubled healthcare and senior living credits. He has advised over 75 healthcare and senior living clients regarding investor issues and market timing related to their bond issues.
Mr. Manning has been a frequent speaker at national healthcare conferences and has been involved with a number of innovative financings including the first bond issue for an integrated delivery health system.
Prior to joining NW Financial, Mr. Manning was a senior portfolio manager at Putnam Investments where he managed the first single sector municipal bond fund – the Putnam Tax-Free Healthcare Fund. At Raymond James he built the high yield trading and investment banking platforms; he ran the high yield trading desk at Ziegler Capital Markets and headed the high yield underwriting and trading department at Piper Jaffray.
